Read in cobol

hi
i make a clock program, this program need sec - sec refresh the display, but the read is waiting, i try a read with no data but in this case the f3 exit is not working, i dont know how to make it
anyone can help me?

I don't know of any COBOL examples, but this FAQ describes the technique for RPG and links to an example:

You should be able to work out the COBOL equivalent with no problem.
