  • Fields in Display Files Not Having Fixed Length

    Dear All,

I've been asked a question that I don't have an answer for, maybe you can help:
In a DSPF, is there a way to create a field But not specify it's length statically?
In other words, Create a field which length can be specified in the program that will use this DSPF ?

    Regards

not with a DSPF. you'd have to use DSM in order to do that.

Actually, I messed up, I posted the question wrong in the first place. What I need to know is : in a DSPF, is there a way to create a certain format (X) but the fields that appear are not always the same, meaning that based on certain criteria, the same format displays different fields. Is that possible (While not using indicators of course) ?

        Yes.
Use an indicator to display field/s or constant/s in the same position.

        Code:
        A N38 BRKV 8Y 2O 7 69EDTCDE(L)
        A 38 7 69'*** fehlt '

Describe an output field on DSPF that you can populate in the program.
