  • Strange UPDDTA behaviour

We have a CL program that retrieves a couple of values (environment, menu, menu option number) from the LDA. Using these values, it will retrieve the file name and library from a file and then does an UPDDTA on this file. Pretty simple stuff.

The strange thing we've noticed is that sometimes, the initial screen is in ENTRY mode, instead of CHANGE mode. There are records in the file and the files are mostly logicals.

I haven't come across this behaviour before... has anyone else?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Regards

    Re: Strange UPDDTA behaviour

I've always thought that UPDDTA opens in entry mode if the file specified has no records and in update if there are already records.

Possible that the LFs have select/omits specified ? No records meeting those criteria ?

I thought the same Andrew. Yes, some have SELECT/OMITS in them, but by pressing F11, the records are then displayed.

      Very strange.
