  • Faxing a spoolfile which contains a barcode

We have a spoolfile which uses *AFP to add a barcode to a report. Ideally, I'd like to do something like CPYSPLF to route this to a fax machine. CPYSPLF recognizes the file is not of type *SCS and thus fails.

    Any thoughts?

I'm currently copying the spoolfile to a physical then PDFing that file. The problem is the CPYSPLF command will not work with *AFPDS types.

Why do you cpysplf in order to convert it to a pdf document? In essence you are converting a text file to pdf.

http://www.code400.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2601 this product accepts the spool file, converts it to a pdf document.

I I think it can work with some fax softwares, not sure.

You are correct, it does convert to PDF, but drops the overlays and barcode that we add to the report.

SCS spoolfiles are ok, it's just this special device type for *APFDS which cause the challenges.

          Thanks.

what are you using to convert to the pdf document? the product I pointed you to actually converts afpds to pdf document including the overlays and bar codes.

dhuesman, you are right CPYSPLF has a problem with *AFPDS types. I have been wrestling with the same a while ago until I figured that CPYSPLF works well with *SCS types and not *AFPDS.

                CVT2PDF supports only *SCS types.

If you are able to do much with *AFPDS some way, do enlighten us,

                thanks

If I find a way to do so without purchasing software (which the example above is, although I think rather small), I'll be sure to post it here.

                  Thanks...

                      Cudos to Beppe!

All I had to do was alter the CCSID (from 850 to 819) and she works like a champ!
