  • iSeries Access MS Windows Commands Copy/Cut and Paste

    by Dan Riehl

The iSeries Access 5250 green-screen emulator named Personal Communications has always caused me havoc when I try to copy and paste. Since the default keys for iSeries Access do not support MS Windows CTRL+C for Copy, CTRL+V for Paste, and CTRL+X for Cut functions, I always had to move my cursor up to the Copy and Paste buttons on the toolbar. Really a pain.

Well, Dennis Bruno made my day by sending me the instructions on how to make iSeries Access understand Copy (CTRL+C ), Paste (CTRL+V), and Cut (CTRL+X).

    Here's a snippet from his e-mail.

Open a session and click the Remap Keyboard Functions button in the toolbar. It will tell you the name of the keyboard file (i.e., the .kmp file) you are using. Find the .kmp file in your iSeries Access directory and paste the following into the file to get Windows style Cut/Copy/Paste:

    C-KEY47=[edit-cut]
    C-KEY48=[edit-copy]
    C-KEY49=[edit-paste]

Here's a couple more for those who like to embed color bytes:

      Code:
      C-KEY18=apl 22 (Ctrl-W = White)
      C-KEY20=apl 28 (Ctrl-R = Red)
      C-KEY22=apl 32 (Ctrl Y = Yellow)
      C-KEY35=apl 20 (Ctrl-G = Greene)
      C-KEY50=apl 3a (Ctrl-B = Blue)

        Code:
        [KEYBOARD]
        C-KEY18=apl 23	(Ctl-W = White Bkgd)
        A-KEY18=apl 22	(Alt-W = White Font)
        C-KEY20=apl 29	(Ctl-R = Red Bkgd)
        A-KEY20=apl 28	(Alt-R = Red Font)
        C-KEY21=apl 31	(Ctl-T = Turquoise Bkgd)
        A-KEY21=apl 30	(Alt-T = Turquoise Font)
        C-KEY22=apl 33	(Ctl-Y = Yellow Bkgd)
        A-KEY22=apl 32	(Alt-Y = Yellow Font)
        C-KEY26=apl 39	(Ctl-P = Pink Bkgd)
        A-KEY26=apl 38	(Alt-P = Pink Font)
        C-KEY35=apl 21	(Ctl-G = Green Bkgd)
        A-KEY35=apl 20	(Alt-G = Green Font)
        C-KEY50=apl 3b	(Ctl-B = Blue Bkgd)
        A-KEY50=apl 3a	(Alt-B = Blue Font)
        A-KEY43=apl 20	(Alt-Enter = Green Font)

        C-KEY47=[edit-copyappend]	(Ctl-X = Copy Append)
        C-KEY48=[edit-copy]	(Ctl-C = Copy)
        C-KEY49=[edit-paste]	(Ctl-V = Paste)
I use these shortcuts (got em from some site called code400.com)

I have noticed that you have to set a font colour first before applying the background colour in SEU, might be due to the code page set here for arabic but when I insert Ctrl-P for pink I get an arabic squiggle, so I have to do another colour first then do the Ctrl-P over the top - weird ?

Also I have a LOT (5-10 per day) instances of pcom crashing after combinations of copy/paste from green screen and pageup/down, the screen just hangs (Alt-F4, start new session, go into SEU, opt 1 to recover changes)

        Dang annoying is what !!!

Ok - Arrow to insert plug here for WSDS over green screen

Re: iSeries Access MS Windows Commands Copy/Cut and Paste

See attached Jamie, from pcom open the keymap editor and then "File-Open" and then open AS400_2.kmp, it prompts if you want to use the keymap for this session etc ...

AS400_2_Descriptions.txt has the description of the key and it's function.

I have never used the paste-next option that littlepd suggests ... what does that do ?

And does anyone know what to select to position the cursor at the end of the line ???
