  • Setup for Internet public can access the iSeries 170

I have a iSeries 170 running V4R5. It is on a LAN that has Internet access provided by a IP provider. I need to know what is needed so the Internet public can access the iSeries 170 and it HTTP servers that are running.
    I have run:
    wrkhdwrsc *cmn
    System: S105004M
    Type options, press Enter.
5=Work with configuration descriptions 7=Display resource detail
    Opt Resource Type Status Text
CMB01 675A Operational Combined function IOP
    LIN01 2720 Operational Comm Adapter
    CMN01 2720 Operational V.24 Port
    LIN02 2745 Operational Comm Adapter
    CMN02 2745 Operational Comm Port
    CMN03 2745 Operational Comm Port
    LIN03 2838 Operational LAN Adapter
    CMN04 2838 Operational Ethernet Port
    I ran: vrycfg cfgobj(E1) cfgtype(*lin) status(*on)
    Line E1 already varied on.
    wrkcfgsts cfgtype(*lin) cfgd(E1)
    Type choices, press Enter.

The servers start OK but can't get to http://192.168.1.170:2001 or ping it.
can you tell me what I need to do to allow access over LAN and from Internet?

Re: Setup for Internet public can access the iSeries 170

    James,

I might be able to help. Here's how I have mine set up so people on the internet can access:

    * My 170's IP address is 192.168.xxx.xxx (don't remember what, but it doesn't matter) and is attached to a router.
    * The router is assigned to my static IP address assigned by my ISP
    * In my router setup I have the appropriate incoming traffic routed to the 170. For instance, telnet, ftp, http, etc.

So if your machine is on a router you'll need to something similar. You'll need to either do port forwarding of specific ports (ftp, telnet, etc) to your 170 or just have all incoming traffic forwarded to your 170.

Oh yeah, one more thing...well, maybe just one. Be sure you go into CFGTCP option 2 (Work with TCP/IP routes) and set your machine's next route to the address of your router. You might have to cycle IP to get that to take effect, can't remember off the top of my head.

Sorry if I ramble a bit, I have the flu and am dizzy when trying to read the monitor.

That address isnt gong to work from the outside world. If you set up your router to route traffic down to you server, they will have to use your routers static IP address.

You should be able to ping the 192 address from a local pc on that network.

Just add the route and he should be set (I had to change a bunch on the fly today)
