  • Clearing Timestamp fields

    Hi,
On my current project, I need to create a program described file with a variety of fields from many files of which several are timestamp fields.
After a output operation, how do I clear these fields to prevent them from being written out to the file again should the next output operation not have values for these fields?

Everyday's a school day, what grade are you in?

You can either have the field null-capable, or you can set it to 0001-01-01-00.00.00.000000.

      Program described in 2018? Seriously?

Regardless you can use a DS as the record layout, specify INZ at the DS level, use the DS name in the result field on the write and then use RESET DS-name after each write.

If the RESET value of a data structure is the same as the CLEAR value, it's better to use CLEAR. The CLEAR operation will be just as fast as RESET, and there will be no need to save off the initial value of the DS in separate storage.
