  • Anyone using nodejs?

    Hello all
i com from full stack Web background and am starting to worry about programming an iseries 7.2 machine until the end of 2017.
The thing is and forgive my opinion:

Iseries green and black screens are tooo old fashion and for what i could see so far RPG is something like Assembly language... Its 2017 not 1990 right?
I just dont know where to start. Do i really need RPG or can i go with nodejs instead of RPG.

    Regards

First, you're mistaken about RPG. Some people program it like it's still 1980, but that's their choice. My RPG code gets mistaken for C or Java.

    Second, yes IBMi supports Node.js.

There is no reason to use RPGLE if you don't need 5250 (green/black) screens or RLA (Record Level Access).

node.js runs under PASE (the systems unix/aix shell) and uses SQL to connect to DB2 as any other Open Source
project such as PHP, Ruby, Phyton etc.
