  • Microsoft Word Mail Merge with IFS files

This may not be the right forum, but I didn't know where to start. Prior to this week, we had some processes that would use CPYTOPCD to copy files to QDLS folders. We just upgraded to the 7.3 OS, and those processes no longer work. We switched those folders to IFS, and are changing the copy procedures to CPYTOIMPF. This gets the files there, but we have run into a problem. Some of the files are downloaded as .csv files, and then converted into .xls files and then used as Mail Merge (Microsoft Word) data sources to create customer letters. This no longer works. When we run the mail merge we get some kind of "file is use, or you are not authorized" message. We can create, delete, and edit the files just fine, so the message is bogus. It's just that mail merge apparently can't interact with documents in an IFS folder. Could someone please provide some assistance?

The security for programs on the system is different than security for the shares. But for grins and giggles, do a WRKAUT '/ifspath', put a 1 next to the file and check your authorities. Make sure you press F11 in order to see all of the authorities.

Next check your shares to make sure you have full authority to the files within the share.
