  • Backup & remove unnecessary files from V3R2M0

    Hi,

    I have an ancient horse: vintage 1994: 9404 running OS400: V3R2M0.

I'm running out of disk space; WRKSYSSTS is at 99%.

I'm hoping I've got files on it that I can backup to tape and delete,
but I don't know enough to do this.

I am willing to pay a reasonable fee.

    Thanks!
    John

    Code:
     ===> DSPOBJD OBJ(*ALL/*ALL) OBJTYPE(*FILE) DETAIL(*FULL) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OUTFI
    LE(QTEMP/KILLME)

Then in wrkqry look at field ODUDAT {Last used date (MMDDYY)}. find things that have never been used then work into it more.

      @ DEADMANWALKS

I hope I followed your instruction faithfully!

Please see the attached; something is not right.

      Did I do something wrong?

I'm not super 400-savvy. I know a few things from
having it for so many years, but I'm not a programmer
      or IT etc.

But if you tell me what to do, step by step, I can
      follow directions! :-)

Many thanks for any help you, or anyone else can offer!

I might just backup and clear the files so nothing blows up that might use the file as user open.

First thing, if not done aleady, would be to IPL the system - that by itself can free up some space to keep from crashing the system (it WILL crash if it gets to 100%).

You can do some basic housecleaning...
          WRKOBJPDM LIB(QSYS) OBJTYPE(*JRNRCV)

If a lot of objects - delete them all - it won't allow you to delete those that are active. You'll be surprised how much disk these take up. System can be configured to keep a certain number of days and delete anything more than that - which is what you want.

I would also check your spooled files - WRKOUTQ *ALL and delete any reports no longer required.

Is this a system that you have had running for a long time? Or is it one that you obtained used?

A system that has been running might be okay simply by doing an IPL to let it clean up many temporary objects. But one that is used might be very limited in disk space and barely have enough space to start up. It might be nearly as "cleaned up" as it can get.

Once saved, you might want to delete any PTF *SAVFs in QGPL.
                QMF*, QSI*, QT*.

Were PTFs in V3R2 named SI*? Or were they still named SF*? Been too long for me to remember.

On v3r2 they were SF. They went to SI maybe in v4. By v5 they were SI.
